We emphasize TRUE, because not all Australian products are made from the real thing. In fact, due to historic regulations many are made from a close relative known as the “Coral Tooth Mushroom” (Hericium corraloides) which is also called the “Australian Lion’s Mane”. This is what most Australian growers are producing and selling as Lion’s Mane.

While both of these mushrooms are in the same genus Hericium, they are different species and only distantly related. For example, within the mushroom genus Amanita you have choice edible species and also deadly poisonous ones! While both types of Hericium share a lot in common, only the health benefits of the true Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus) have scientific support. For this reason, we offer you the true and scientifically studied Lion's Mane Mushroom in our grow kits.

Thankyou for your purchase. I hope you're happy with your purchase. However, if you are not satisfied with your purchase for any reason, you can return for a full or partial refund or exchange.

Returns

All returns must be postmarked within 14 days. The mushroom kits are “alive” and must be returned ASAP, so they do not die and can be reused by growing the mushrooms ourselves. The box can be opened however, the kit must be unused and returned with all contents.

Return Process

To return an item please email me at brett@thatmushroomguy.com.au to get our return address. Sometimes we may not require the return but may ask for photos of the issue. If the return is for a change of mind, you will be responsible for the cost of postage, and we ask that you use postage with tracking please.

HOW MANY TIMES WILL MY KIT PRODUCE MUSHROOMS?

Depending on species you may get 2-4 flushes. But we guarantee at least one flush of mushrooms.

There are many factors which determine the amount of flushes. Mushrooms are a living organism and it is quite a skill to cultivate them. Humidity, fresh air and temperature are the pillars of mushroom cultivation.

WHAT IS A "FLUSH"?

Besides a hand of playing cards of the same suit. A "flush" in mushroom cultivation is each crop or harvest of mushrooms. Depending on species, they usually appear once every 7-14 days.

HOW MANY MUSHROOMS WILL IT GROW?

Most mushroom kits are token size, ours weigh between 2.2 and 2.6kg. They are what the mushroom industry calls "fruiting blocks".

That said, depending on species, first flushes usually yield 400g-1kg.

Each subsequent flush is usually smaller.

WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR KIT ONCE ITS EXPENDED?

Remove your block from the plastic packaging and

Bury your block in the garden and cover with mulch or soil - this will encourage them to flush again!

Break it up and use as mulch

WHY DID MY MUSHROOMS STOP GROWING?

When there isn't enough humidity around the block, mushroom pins usually stop growing. Don't be alarmed! Your mushroom kit is still alive and can fruit. Simply remove the dried-up pins (mushrooms) and leave the block to rest for a week. After that, soak the block in cold water for 20 minutes, remove all the water from the bag, and begin again.

After a while, you will notice small, dense clusters of mycelium forming at the cut. This is when the excitement begins! Over the course of 7-14 days, these tiny clusters will gradually expand, ultimately developing into full-sized Lion's Mane mushrooms.

How Do I Grow It?

Place your block on its side and where the block presses against the plastic, take a sharp clean knife and make a 10-12cm cut along this part of the bag (you could cut an “x” shape or a simple line).

Place your sliced bag in a humid part of your home (near the kitchen sink or bathroom). Make sure it is kept away from direct sunlight, and keep it well hydrated. Do this by spraying the outside of your block, over the sliced area, with water at least once per day but preferably 2-3 times.

The mushrooms can take 2-6 weeks to fruit, but will usually appear within 5-7 days. Once they appear, keep watch, they grow very fast and will be ready to harvest in 7-21 days. Harvest them all at once by gently grasping the mushrooms at the base, twist and pull.

Lions Mane Growth Kit

I found the mushroom really easy to look after. At first I was frightened I was going to kill it as I can't even look after cat grass but being that I work from home and I spend time in the kitchen I am albe to give my mushroom the spritz that it needs 3 times a day. I also enjoyed watching it grow... Wow it grew so quickly especially after the initial growth spurt. I noticed how quickly it grows as I went out and came home and realisd how much it grew just after a few hours I was blown away. It is a beautiful looking mushroom and I am happy that I tried it. When it was ready to harvest I sliced it and fried it in butter and it tasted beautiful with a slight nutty flavour. I was able to store some in the fridge and wrapped it in some paper towel. So in another two weeks it will grow another batch of mushroom which is fantastic. Brett was really informative and helpful. What a great way to stay healthy. Thank you!

Blue Oyster Mushroom

These mushrooms grew so amazingly quick. I would take a picture in the morning before work and then after work they had visibly grown. Sauteed mushrooms were fantastic, even though I harvested a little too late - caught me off-guard how fast they grew. Bought Lions mane next, which also did well.
